DTEE

Decarbonising Transport in Emerging Economies

  • Project no.250901
  • Duration 04/2019 - 03/2023

This project DTEE will help emerging economies achieve their NDC (Nationally Determined Contribution) commitments by establishing pathways to reduce transport CO2 emissions. The project will:

  • design a common assessment framework for transport emissions that covers all transport sectors and modes and tailor the assessment framework for each country of implementation,
  • increase or create the capacity of each country of implementation to evaluate their transport policies and revise their NDCs independently, and
  • develop a pathway required to reduce transport carbon emissions that key stakeholders will agree on.

Capacity building activities, e.g. training and stakeholder workshops, will ensure that partner institutions can work increasingly independently when revising NDC commitments in the five-year review cycle. Such activities will also allow recurring, adequate data collection and the use/update of the assessment framework. This project will help improve future transport research and policy development beyond the project duration. This project will also assess the feasibility of the implementation of sustainable mobility policies with a high mitigation potential, which focuses on the potential synergies between climate change targets, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Urban Agenda.
